The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center is helping students stay engaged, explore future careers, and build new skills this summer through a series of hands-on STEM camps in partnership with regional educational institutions.
This summer’s lineup includes opportunities for students interested in emerging technology, healthcare, and pharmacy, while offering fun, interactive learning experiences right here in Southwest Virginia.
In June, the Center will partner with The University of Virginia’s College at Wise to host a three-day Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp for high school students. The camp will introduce students to the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence through hands-on activities and discussions about how AI is shaping industries across the world. Students will gain foundational knowledge while exploring real-world applications of this evolving technology.
Later in the summer, the Center will partner with Appalachian College of Pharmacy to host a one-day pharmacy camp for rising 7th graders and older students. The camp is designed to introduce students to careers in pharmacy and healthcare through interactive STEM experiences and hands-on learning activities led by pharmacy professionals and educators.
“These camps provide students with opportunities to explore exciting career fields while engaging in meaningful, hands-on learning experiences,” said David Matlock, Executive Director of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. “We are proud to partner with outstanding educational institutions to help connect students across our region with opportunities that inspire curiosity and future career exploration.”
