The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center recently welcomed Virginia First Gentleman Adam Spanberger to campus to learn how regional partnerships are expanding STEM education and strengthening workforce development across Southwest Virginia.

During the visit, First Gentleman Spanberger met with Higher Ed Center leadership and representatives from the Healthcare Excellence Academy Lab Schools (HEALS), A. Linwood Holton Governor’s School, and the Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia to discuss collaborative efforts that are creating new opportunities for students throughout the region.

A highlight of the conversation was the Higher Ed Center’s recently announced grant to build a new science laboratory. Once complete, the laboratory will provide modern, hands-on learning space that supports science instruction and helps prepare students for future careers in STEM fields.

First Gentleman Spanberger also toured the Southwest Virginia Regional Simulation Lab for Nursing and Allied Health, where he learned how advanced simulation technology gives students and healthcare professionals the opportunity to practice clinical skills in realistic learning environments.
