Virginia Rural Information Technology Apprenticeship Grant Program

  • Competitive grants awarded to small, rural information technology businesses in certain localities in Southwest and Southside regions of Virginia.
  • 18-month apprenticeship programs for full-time employees that combine mentorship and on-the-job training to enhance experience and skills.
  • Qualified localities: Counties of Alleghany, Bland, Botetourt, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe; Cities of Bristol, Danville, Galax, Martinsville, and Norton.
  • Each business that receives a grant is eligible to receive funding for no more than five years or until the business employs 100 individuals.
  • Businesses must be a registered apprenticeship sponsor at the state or federal level prior to applying to the grant program.
