Young learners across Southwest Virginia will have another opportunity to explore, experiment and build through hands-on learning this fall. Registration is now open for the Fall 2026 K-5 STEM Academy at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.

The five-week academy will meet on Tuesday evenings from Oct. 27 through Nov. 24. Classes will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with kindergarten students dismissing at 7:15 p.m.

Throughout the academy, students in kindergarten through fifth grade will participate in hands-on lessons exploring science, technology, engineering and math. The activities are designed to make learning engaging and fun while helping children strengthen their creativity, confidence, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Early exposure to STEM helps young learners discover new interests and imagine what may be possible for their futures. By making these experiences available close to home, the Higher Ed Center is helping build a strong foundation for Southwest Virginia’s next generation of thinkers, creators and problem-solvers.

The academy will be held at the Higher Ed Center, located at One Partnership Circle in Abingdon. All classroom materials will be provided. A parent or guardian must remain on the property while their child participates. A $35 registration fee covers all five sessions.

Space is limited. Register for the Fall K-5 STEM Academy through Eventbrite.
