The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center Foundation is entering a new phase of growth and engagement, marked by a renewed focus on expanding student support and strengthening regional impact.
As part of this effort, the Foundation has added a Director of Development position to lead its philanthropic initiatives and guide the organization’s revitalization. The renewed focus is centered on growing resources that directly benefit students, including scholarship opportunities and program support that connect education to meaningful career pathways.
Larry Foster has been named Director of Development for the Foundation. He brings more than 12 years of fundraising experience in higher education and nonprofit organizations, along with over 15 years of private sector experience focused on organizational growth and performance.

In his new role, Foster will lead efforts to reestablish the Foundation’s presence, cultivate relationships with donors and partners, and identify strategic opportunities to expand investment in student success. He will also play a key role in growing scholarship support for students across the Center’s service region, with a focus on those pursuing education and training in high-demand fields.
“This is an exciting step forward for the Foundation and for the students we serve,” said Foster. “By strengthening our philanthropic efforts, we can open more doors for students and continue building a workforce that meets the needs of our region.”
The Foundation supports the mission of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center by helping reduce financial barriers to education and expanding access to high-quality academic and workforce training programs. As its efforts grow, the Foundation will provide additional opportunities for individuals, businesses, and community partners to invest in the future of Southwest Virginia.
With this renewed direction, the Foundation is positioned to play an expanded role in advancing student success and supporting the long-term economic vitality of the region.
