Radford University Announces
New Programs
in
Information Technology
for Southwest Virginia Students
Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and
Technology
This bachelor's degree is
specifically designed for students who have completed an articulated
two-year community college degree in Information Technology
or Computer Science. The cohort classes will be taught in a
sequence that will allow students to complete both the
Database Concentration and the Software Engineering
Concentration. All courses will be offered in the evening to
accommodate schedules of working adults.
Master of Science in Education with content area in
Information Technology*
Students seeking a Master of
Science degree with content studies in Information Technology should
consider this program. In addition to 18 credit hours in
graduate-level Information Technology coursework, an additional 18
credit hours of educational coursework will be required for completion
of the 36 credit hours master's degree. All courses will be
available at SVHEC, and most students will complete the program in 2
years (6 semesters).
Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Information Technology*
This three-semester certificate
program is designed for educators who teach Information
Technology/Computer Science at the baccalaureate level or for secondary
instructors who teach Advanced Placement and/or Dual Enrollment courses
in Information Technology or Computer Science. This program is
also suitable for individuals who want to enhance their technology
skills and credentials for current and future employers.
Coursework includes 18 credit hours of graduate-level instruction in
software development and algorithms, computer organization and operation
systems, web development systems, database concepts, networking
concepts, and programming languages.
*
A leveling course, ITEC 500 Introduction to Java Programming
(3 credit hours), is available to those students who do not have
previous experience in object oriented programming.

Graduate Degree Programs
The Radford University College of Graduate and
Extended Education currently offers three master of science degrees at SVHEC
through the educational cohort system. The three degree programs, which
generally require two to three
years
to complete, include
Educational Leadership,
Social Work
(MSW), and
Counseling
and Human Development
(school and community counseling).
These extended education programs typically form new
cohorts every two to three years. Enrollment in these cohort programs is
generally closed once the cohort classes begin. A new counseling cohort will begin classes in fall 2008.
Social Work and Educational Leadership will begin new cohorts in fall 2009. While waiting for the formation of new cohorts, prospective students are
encouraged to begin the online application process at
