Free Workshop
ABINGDON, VA — On March 25, the University of Virginia School of Continuing & Professional Studies, the Southwest Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center are partnering to offer a free workshop, titled “Constitutional Law Updates.”
The
workshop is appropriate for public safety leaders from local, state, and
federal agencies, including law enforcement, private security, public health,
corrections, fire and emergency medical services, emergency management, and the
military, as well as Administration/Criminal Justice faculty and students.
The presenter, Tim Longo, will provide officers and other participants with an
overview of the Bill of Rights, its application to law enforcement, and the
various legal and constitutional issues that impact law enforcement operations. Officers will receive 7.5 in-service hours (4
legal), provided by the Southwest Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy.
Tim Longo, JD, serves as Assistant
Professor and Senior Program Director for the University of Virginia’s Master
of Public Safety. Longo retired as chief of police for the city of
Charlottesville in 2016 and previously served 19 years with the Baltimore
Police Department, where he rose to the rank of colonel, serving as chief of
technical services, chief of staff to the police commissioner, Southeastern
District commander, and director of Emergency Communications Center. He worked in patrol and commanded the Special
Investigations Section within the Internal Investigations Division.
