Learn strategies needed to manage any crisis and its aftermath in Crisis Management on Thursday, March 27 at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon. Hosted by The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Office of Economic Development, the program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Crisis Management will teach participants to build crisis communication teams and set up notification systems. Case studies will be used to help participants plan for potential threats by examining worse case scenarios for companies, organizations, and agencies. Crisis Management will teach ways to take care of victims and their families, how to keep a business going during a crisis, how to interact with the media, and how to handle social media that can hinder or help a situation. The instructor will help each participant craft an outline of a crisis management plan and crisis communication plan that meets the needs of their organization.
Instructor Kathy Still is the Director of News and Media Relations at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. She previously worked more than 20 years as a reporter for the Bristol Herald Courier and The Post.
