Department of Nurse Anesthesia

The Department of Nurse Anesthesia is one of nine departments in the School of Allied Health Professions at VCU. The Department was first in the nation to offer a Masters Degree in Nurse Anesthesia some 23 years ago and continues as a national leader today; ranking as the best graduate nurse anesthesia program in the nation by US News and World Report in 2004.  Through the School of Allied Health Professions, the Department of Nurse Anesthesia also participates in a unique distance learning Ph.D Program in Health Related Sciences.

This is a challenging 72-credit hour, seven academic semester program leading to a Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia Degree. In Abingdon Virginia, the Department of Nurse Anesthesia, partners with the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center and a cohort of hospitals in southwest Virginia and Tennessee to offer its program via state-of-the-art distance technology.  In keeping with the philosophy of the Department, the distance program is dedicated to providing high quality, graduate level, Nurse Anesthesia training for the residents of Southwest Virginia.
