Radford University

1910 - 2010

100 Years and Still Growing

Investing in Lifetimes

Since its inception in 1910 as the State Normal and Industrial School for Women, Radford University has undergone several name changes and has experienced positive, yet managed, growth.  The mission of Radford University since its inception, however, has remained constant.  Radford University serves the Commonwealth and the nation through a broad range of academic, cultural, human service, and research programs.  First and foremost, the university emphasizes teaching and learning in its commitment to the development of mature, responsible, and knowledgeable citizens.  With a focus on creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, the university fosters leadership development in its students and prepares them for success in facing the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Radford University is honored to be in educational partnership with the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon.  Our Abingdon campus provides economical, practical, and convenient accessibility for Southwest Virginia students who seek to take advantage of the quality graduate and undergraduate offerings RU brings to this region.  At Radford University, we invest in lifetimes.  We consider our presence at SWVHEC  to be an important investment in the quality of life for our Abingdon students, and we are committed to providing high quality instruction in programs that meet the needs of this great region and its citizens.
