Standardized Testing at Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center

To strengthen the economy of southwest Virginia by providing an official testing center for the current and future workforce. The SWVHEC promotes regional economic development through its conference facility, business support services, and technology applications.

Registration

To register for a test, candidates must register by clicking on the testing company link provided below. We are in the process of contracting with other test companies to provide additional examinations for residents in our area including college students, business professionals, prospective educators, healthcare workers, and more. Contact us if you are interested in taking a test that is not offered below.

DSST
It's Your Life, Take Credit for it. The DSST credit by exam program gives students the opportunity to receive college credit for life experience as a form of prior learning assessment. Recommended for credit by the American Council on Education, the 38 exams are offered in diverse subject areas such as health, ethics, finance and technology. The DSST program is owned by Prometric, the global leader in testing and assessment, and has been placing students on the fast track to college degrees since 1986. Please check with your college/university prior to taking any of these exams to ensure the test meets your degree requirements.

• The total cost for a DSST is $115.00 with two separate payments.
• The registration fee of $35.00 is paid on the day of the test and is non-refundable (person credit card/debit card, check, or cash).
• The test fee of $80.00 is paid on the day of the test (personal credit card/debit card).
• Examinees have a maximum of 2 hours to complete the test.
Important: You must bring two forms of identification. The primary form must be a government-issued photo ID with signature, such as a passport, state-issued driver's license, state-issued ID card, tribal ID, naturalization card or certificate of citizenship.

The secondary form of ID must have a photo or signature, such as a Social Security card, student ID, credit card or employee ID.

LSAT
The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is a half-day, standardized test administered four times each year. All American Bar Association (ABA)-approved law schools, most Canadian law schools, and many other law schools require applicants to take the LSAT as part of their admission process. It provides a standard measure of acquired reading and verbal reasoning skills that law schools can use as one of several factors in assessing applicants.
