Even before opening its doors in 1998, the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center had embarked upon the path toward a stronger southwest Virginia economy, through education and training of the current and future workforce. Its establishment by the General Assembly in 1991 was the first step toward what today is a flourishing partnership with a growing number of colleges and universities. Through this unique association, we offer degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as professional development courses, geared toward adult learners. In addition, the Higher Education Center offers a conference and special events center, a certification testing facility, and business sustainment services, all supported by an advanced level of technology. We strive to stay aware of the region’s changing needs, so that we can continue to promote economic development in ways that best meet them.
