In Video Production and Editing, participants will learn to shoot professional looking video footage with a personal camcorder, edit video footage and upload to websites and social media.

Today, it is not a matter of if a crisis will happen but when it will happen. In Crisis Management, instructor Kathy Still will teach participants strategies needed to manage any crisis and its aftermath.
Today, it is not a matter of if a crisis will happen but when it will happen. In Crisis Management, instructor Kathy Still will teach participants strategies needed to manage any crisis and its aftermath. Participants will learn to build crisis communication teams and set up notification systems. Case studies will be used to help participants plan for potential threats by examining worse case scenarios for companies, organizations, and agencies. Crisis Management will teach ways to take care of victims and their families, how to keep a business going during a crisis, how to interact with the media, and how to handle social media that can hinder or help a situation. The instructor will help each participant craft an outline of a crisis management plan and crisis communication plan that meets the needs of their organization.
Instructor Kathy Still is the Director of News and Media Relations at The University of Virginia's College at Wise. She previously worked more than 20 years as a reporter for the Bristol Herald Courier and The Post.

Whatever kind of PC you have, you'll discover fast and fluid ways to switch between apps, move things around, and go smoothly from one place to another.” Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops with Windows 8 already installed so they can personalize their settings during the workshop. There will be a limited number of laptops available for those who do not bring their own.

Children are full of “why” questions about the world. One primary goal of Kids’ Tech University (KTU) is to create the future workforce in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by sparking kids’ interest in these fields. KTU is a semester-long research program developed by the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute at Virginia Tech in partnership with the Virginia 4-H, that puts scientists and engineers in front of children to encourage the exploration of intriguing topics in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The first 2013-14 Kids’ Tech University's (Abingdon) event will be held at the Virginia Tech Southwest Center, located in the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, VA on October 19, 2013! This is an all-day event that consists of an interactive session, which is centered on answering a question about the world around us, and a hands-on component, which features Virginia Tech professors, students, clubs, and community.
