Mission Statement
The Southwest Virginia Higher Education
Center (SVHEC) was established in 1991 to strengthen the economy of southwest
Virginia through education and training of the current and future workforce.
Through a unique partnership with eight colleges and universities, the
SVHEC provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs and professional
development courses primarily for adult learners. The SVHEC promotes
regional economic development through its conference facility, business
support services, and technology applications.
History
- Established as a State Agency by the Virginia General Assembly in 1991
- Initial participating institutions included University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Clinch Valley College and Virginia Highlands Community College
- Board of Trustees was appointed to govern the SVHEC
- Construction began in 1995 on the 89,000 square foot education and conference complex
- Opened in January 1998

- Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
- Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
