Winter 2012 Term
January 17 - February 23, 2012
The College for Older Adults (COA) is a program
for persons 50 and older who share a love of learning. COA offers courses
across a wide spectrum of subjects, ranging from historical and cultural
topics to the practical and contemporary. Learners are given the opportunity
to suggest classes, teach, network with other students, and exchange ideas
as well as continue their quest for knowledge and broaden their lives.
If you want to become a lifelong learner, sharpen your memory, meet new friends and enrich your scope of interests, enroll in the College for Older Adults at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.
Happy Holidays! I hope everyone has a nice holiday season and that all are ready
to return to the COA for classes. We have a great line-up of classes and I hope that you will
find several each day to take. The membership fee is $40.00 and it enables you to take as
many classes as you would like. Arts Array passes will be available for purchase for $15.00.
The schedule of Arts Array events has not been published at the time of this letter's printing.
Please note that we are starting classes at 10am, not 9am for the winter term. This will
allow us to deal better with the weather situation and parking lot. Therefore, lunch will be from
11:30am till 12:15pm, and the second class will begin at 12:15pm and last at 2pm. On
Tuesdays we are having performers come into the Café and entertain us during lunch. Don't
miss these special events.
I hope that you will find the COA an opportunity to get out of the house – escape the
winter doldrums – and join others in our beautiful (and warm) facility. Come enjoy the
courses, the camaraderie and the coffee. Come make new connections.
