FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA HIGHER EDUCATION CENTER HOSTS ANNUAL FIRST LEGO LEAGUE TOURNAMENT SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2017

ABINGDON, VA.—The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center has announced the 2017 FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Tournament to take place on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 9AM-5PM. With the help of volunteers from all over Southwest Virginia, the HirEd will host the FLL Tournament with over 30 teams competing for the top spot in the region. The top team from the region will advance to the state tournament in FLL.

FIRST LEGO League introduces young people, ages 9-14, to the fun and excitement of science and technology. Children program an autonomous robot (using a LEGO MINDSTORMS robot set) to score points on a thematic playing surface, create innovative solutions to a problem, all while being guided by the programs signature Core Values.

This year the challenge for FLL is called HYDRO DYNAMICS and will teach children how we find, transport, use, and dispose of water. Teams will choose and solve a real-world problem in the project portion of the challenge. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under the FIRST LEGO League signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism.

For anyone wishing to attend the 2017 FLL Tournament, attendance is free to the general public and if you wish to find out more information about FIRST LEGO League please go to http://svrl.org.
