Interested in Just Taking a Class?
Virginia Tech’s Commonwealth Campus program permits persons to enroll in graduate courses without seeking formal admission to a graduate degree program based upon continuing education interests.  Teachers may also use these courses for re-licensure credit.   Instructor permission is required for most courses, and they may also be taken while the formal admission process to the graduate school is completed. Evidence of receipt of a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution is required. For more information see: Students Not Seeking a Degree.

Institute for Distance and Distributed Learning  (IDDL)

Virginia Tech offers numerous degree and certificate programs outside the confines of the traditional campus setting. Through various forms of network-based instruction, individuals can pursue their educational goals at work, at home, or at extended-campus centers across the commonwealth. A wide variety of individual credit and non-credit courses are available through distance and distributed learning.  Students may use the flexibility of network-accessed courses to accelerate their programs of study, to increase flexibility in their schedules, and to pursue their education away from the Virginia Tech campus.

You may visit the website at http://www.iddl.vt.edu.

Note regarding computer and communication technology: Virginia Tech students are all provided with personal email accounts on the university's computer network. This capability gives them access to the many electronic information, database, and internet resources available through the universities libraries system as well as access to the entire World Wide Web. It also allows them to participate in the electronic communication, list-serves, and material collections incorporated into many courses. This service is currently free of additional charges when used at workstations in the professional library or computer labs at the Southwest Virginia higher Education Center. Students are encouraged to provide themselves with separate internet access in order to access their Virginia Tech electronic IDs and utilize these capabilities from remote location.
