Psychology

UVa’s College at Wise offers upper level courses in Abingdon for students to complete degrees in the above majors.  Students transfer to UVa-Wise with a degree from the community college or equivalent hours in lower level coursework.

 Admission

Degree-seeking- Submit an application for admission with a

$25.00 fee.  Request all colleges and universities previously

attended to send official transcripts.  Students enrolled in the

Guaranteed Admissions Program with area community

colleges may have the $25.00 application fee waived. 

Non-degree- Submit the application for admission, but

transcripts and the $25.00 fee are not required.  Non-degree students take courses for personal enrichment, are not admitted to a degree program and are not eligible for financial assistance.

 Tuition and Fees

In-State Tuition and Fees - $113 per credit hour. Students taking 7-11 credit hours also pay a $12.25 per semester technology fee. Full-time: $1,340.25 per semester for students taking 12-18 credit hours (includes technology fee). Out-of-State Tuition and Fees - $480 per credit hour.   Students taking 7-11 credit hours also pay a $12.25 per semester technology fee. Full-time: $5,809.25 per semester for students taking 12-18 credit hours (includes technology fee). 

Students enrolled exclusively in Abingdon currently pay  partial student fees.  Any student taking three hours or more on the Wise campus and twelve hours or more total will be charged full-time Wise campus fees.  Any student taking three hours or more on the Wise campus and less than twelve hours total will be charged fees based on the part-time Wise campus fee structure.

 Registration

Students may register starting November 7.  Tuition and fees must be paid prior to the first class session.  Continuing students must register prior to the last day of class of the fall semester or pay a $50 late registration fee.

 Prerequisites

Please consult the College catalog or your advisor for specific course prerequisites.

 TEXTBOOKS

Books for Abingdon classes are sold in the Bookstore at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.  Bookstore hours allow students to purchase their books immediately prior to the start of their classes.  Students may charge books to financial aid by prior arrangement only.

 Location

Classes are held in Abingdon at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center (HEC), located on the Virginia Highlands Community College campus.  Some Abingdon courses are taught through interactive television between Abingdon and Wise.

Weather Cancellations   

Except in the case of extreme conditions, classes in the HEC are canceled only by the individual instructors.  The Higher Education Center does not close when Virginia Highlands Community College closes due to inclement weather.  Closing of the main campus in Wise does not automatically cancel Abingdon classes.  For up to date information, please call the HEC’s Information Line at (276) 619-4308.  Evening class notices will be available after 2:00 p.m.
